Would you have him in the England squad?
Intresting situation, With Arteta having little or no chance of getting into the Spain squad and him now being officially eligable to play for England, Gerrard was asked on TalkSport if he would like him in Squad and he seemed all up for it.
Could be a good addition and i think it would be a no brainer for fans although Mikel might be completley against the idea.

What do you think?

good point , as he is now eligable and if he wanted it badly then i really cant see a problem , he would make a big change to see him play for England , I am all for it and look forward to seeing him in an England shirt

I think this q should be considered in general terms. FIFA should revise the rules - A player must be either:

1. Born in the country

2. Have at least 1 parent born in the country

3. Been brought up and educated in the country

Ireland have benefited from the grandparent rule but I bet most of the players they picked would have chosen England if they had the option. Arteta is a terrific player and is unfortunate that he is competing against Iniesta, Xavi, Fabregas, Alonso. I bet if he had the choice of England or Spain he would choose Spain.

On talent he should definitely get into the squad, and i think it would be a good idea in terms of improving our chances in the big tournaments...

but some people may have a problem with it....and personally i do think it's a bit weird to have a Spanish national playing for England...just because he's been in the country for X amount of years...

Nay

I'd like to see Drogba, Tevez, Villa and Cech in the England side, but they ain't English.

How can anyone who is not English really put their heart into playing for England? I dare say he'd put on a decent show of football, but is just isn't right.

at the end of the day He is still spanish and we should be playing our own nations players not spains rejects, same thing with Almunia it's desperate to look at foreign players for england even if he could get into our team

i admire disco. i don't care what all and sundry else says, disco replaced into an astonishing type. the only undesirable factor i will say is that some disco songs are way too long, yet different than that i admire me some ABBA and Donna summer season and Bee Gees.

Agree with Dan......otherwise you end up with teams like Croatia and Portugal and to a certain extent France....with none naturalised foreign players with no love for the country or the shirt.

Why not? With so few English boys playing in the Premiership maybe this is the way to go, at least it would save us picking lads from lower leagues.....

big time yay, i dont have a little englunder mentality and if we are to have foriegners dominating our league this should be a bonus that we take advantage of. arteta is exactly the player we need and dont have i.e a playmaker.

Not for me I'm afraid I think the england squad should be english nothing against the lad he is quality. Also we all know we would be his second choice
